Kiwi Bakery was asked by 97.1 zht Morning Zoo to again do the cake for the 12th Annual Valentine's Day Massacre. They arrange to have 97 women dive into a massive cake to find tickets for various prizes. This year, the GRAND prize was a $6,000 Diamond Ring from Morgan Jewelers. I saw the ring - BEAUTIFUL is an understatement!!
As Kiwi Bakery's Cake Decorator, I was part of this insanely awesome adventure. Last week, we put our plan into play - I baked all day Saturday & decorated on Sunday. Monday we got notice that the cake we planned was NOT big enough. But, luckily the owners of Kiwi Bakery got it taken care of & on Monday evening I completed the on-site Cake Decorating for the cake dive! Chrystal & Bori Ly are the owners and we actually completed the 4 1/2 by 10 foot cake just before 10 pm Monday night! Chrystal & I were COVERED in cake & frosting by the end of it & I think we both deserve a massage, new pants & shoes for our effort! We did, jokingly, request that Bori stick to the items available at Kiwi Bakery - Meat Pies, Sausage Rolls & Donuts as his decorating 'skills' left us laughing!
Big Budah from Fox 13 Good Day Utah was at the Massacre along with the Morning Zoo. In all the footage from previous years, Big Budah generally mentioned how no one ever was jumping out of cake, just into them. So I made him a cake - a two tier cake with a fondant figurine of him (as close as I could get it) coming out of the cake, holding a diamond ring! It was a blast to make!! It sat at the Registration Table & while it wasn't a spot on copy it got a lot of compliments!!
I also made a cake for the Morning Zoo with the 97.1 zht logo on the side, matching the Big Budah cake. DB thought it was crazy heavy for such a tiny cake. It was - lots of chocolate cake, strawberry filling & Buttercream Icing with Fondant Flowers!
Congrats to the listener that won the Diamond Ring! LUCKY LADY!! This was a great experience! Chrystal, Bori & I chatted about some awesome ideas for next year - hope they ask us back!!
